An access log is a thorough list of all the files that were accessed by the visitors of a given website. Every single file which was requested in some way shall be listed, so if you have a single webpage with 3 embedded pics, one video and one embedded text file, for example, the access log shall contain a total of 6 entries - one for every of the six files that were accessed when the visitor opened the webpage. A log typically offers the file name and path, the date, as well as the visitor’s OS, web browser and IP address. Oftentimes you can also find the referrer websites that sent the visitors to your website. The information an access log file includes is in human-readable plain text format. It can also be processed by special software on a laptop or computer and used to write reports on the overall performance of a site, independent of the web statistics which your web hosting server may have created.

Access Log Manager in Shared Hosting

Our in-house built Hepsia CP features a section focused on various logs and the access logs are one of them. As soon as you sign in to your shared hosting account and take a look at this section, you will find a list of all the domains and subdomains you have. All it takes to enable the generation of access logs is to press a button that'll be available next to every domain/subdomain. In case the option is enabled, you'll see a download link along with the file size so far, so you shall be able to save the file to your personal computer and examine it or process it with some program. Enabling or disabling the logs takes effect immediately, so if you don't require one, you can stop it with simply a click from the very same section of the CP. You'll still be able to access the already generated content by simply clicking the Download link.
